The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor position in Hebrew & Semitic Studies with a specialization in Rabbinics, beginning August 2008. The successful candidate with be awarded the Belzer Professorship in Rabbinics and will be a member of the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies. A Ph.D. is required prior to the start of the appointment. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research, teaching and service. Preference will be given to those candidates dedicated to the study of Midrash and classical Jewish thought. The teaching load is 2/2 and includes undergraduate and graduate courses: a one-semester Introduction to Judaism for undergraduates; rabbinic texts in the original and translation; topics in Jewish religion and culture; and occasional graduate seminars.
