Carsten Thiede (1952-2004), perhaps the most vocal promoter of O’Callaghan’s interpretation of 7Q5, frequently brought up the name of Herbert Hunger in support of O’Callaghan: “A classical papyrologist like Herbert Hunger, with no vested ‘theological’ interest either for or against the proposed New Testament passage, accepted the nu without the slightest hesitation.”2 This is interesting.
