How DeMille made his ‘Ten Commandments’ Jewish again. (PJ Grisar, The Forward). I had forgotten that DeMille had done an earlier
Ten Commandments movie in the 1920s, although PaleoJudaica's archive tells me that I once knew. From the description here, the first film does sound cloyingly moralizing.
