We are seeking candidates who specialize in Second Temple Judaism, with competence in the literature of classical Rabbinic Judaism. Possible areas for research and teaching (at the graduate level) include Philo, Josephus, Septuagint, Dead Sea Scrolls, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, and early rabbinic literature. At the undergraduate level, teaching may be in a variety of courses, especially in Hebrew Bible.
Early Judaism is a component of the Biblical field in our department, in which Judaism and Christianity in the Greco-Roman era are studied in conjunction with one another at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A range of methodologies and approaches is employed (philological, literary, social historical, archaeological, philosophical, theological). Candidates should have an active interest in the broader field of Jewish Studies.
The successful candidate must have completed the PhD and will be expected to carry out an independent program of scholarly research yielding significant peer-reviewed publications. Responsibilities include effective undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision of MA and PhD students.
