ZAGREB, 9 October 2025 (Hina) – This year marks an extraordinary milestone in Croatian history — 1,100 years since the first recorded mention of Croatian Glagolitic heritage.For more on the invention of the Glagolitic alphabet, the precursor of the Cyrillic alphabet, by Saints Cyril and Methodius in the ninth century, see here and here and links. In some posts I have stated imprecisely that they invented the Cyrillic alphabet.To commemorate the occasion, a three-day international scientific conference titled “Eleven Centuries of Croatian Glagolitism (925–2025)” has begun at the Institute of Economics in Zagreb.
