JERUSALEM, (amnnews.com) Israel, Jerusalem, March 2003 - The Israel Museum, Jerusalem today announced plans to restore its Shrine of the Book, the building which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, which are considered to be among the most important archeological treasures uncovered in the last century and perhaps the most important patrimonial treasures of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. The renovation project will refurbish the Shrine, ensuring an optimal environment for the preservation of the Dead Sea Scrolls and enhancing its display facilities to improve the experience of viewing the Scrolls. Construction begins on April 1, 2003, and will require that the Shrine remain closed to the public for approximately one year. During this time, treasures from the Shrine will be on display in a comprehensive exhibition, Envisioning the Temple: Scrolls, Stones, and Symbols, which opens on May 30, 2003, at the Israel Museum.
